Chris Walker of Political Heat
Chris Walker is the founder of an online political blog called Political Heat (political-heat.blogspot.com) that focuses on issues pertinent to Wisconsin. He provides an opinionated analysis of these issues, citing reasoning with news articles and statistics.
Chris has been writing about political issues for over eleven years, and has been featured in a number of publications, including the Cap Times, Elite Daily, Dane101.com, and many others. In his spare time, he enjoys reading (mostly non-fiction) and going to various family-themed events in the Dane County area with his wife and son. Chris also likes to pretend that he can play the guitar [insert the tune of your favorite guitar song here].
What led you to decide to start your business?
When I graduated from UW-Milwaukee in 2008 it was difficult to find a new writing assignment when I moved back to Madison. I decided to take things into my own hands, creating the blog site Political Heat, and have posted almost 1,200 posts since that time!
What’s your favorite part of running your business?
I love doing research! Blogging has allowed me to become more informed on issues, and in conversations with friends and family I can provide more insight to the topics of discussion.
What’s the most challenging part of running your business?
Finding time to make posts. I work full-time outside of the blog, and I don't want my hobby to take away time from my family either. So finding the time to do research, write, edit and promote is sometimes difficult.
Is there anything new or exciting happening with your business now or in the upcoming months?
I continue to find more writing assignments with various news outlets in Wisconsin and beyond. Those new ventures will be featured on my blog site as well!
Name one of your favorite local Madison restaurants, bars, or coffee/tea shops.
I love Buraka, authentic East African/Ethiopian cuisine! I recommend it to all of my friends who visit the Madison area.
What’s one of your favorite things to do in the Madison area?
The Farmer's Market every weekend is usual a top draw for my family and myself. We also enjoy State Street, and visiting various parks in the area.
Where is one of your favorite places to go to relax in the Madison area?
The Memorial Union Terrace -- can't beat it!
What was one of your childhood dreams?
When I was a child, I wanted to grow up and become a stand-up comedian!
